We at Minding Miracles thank each of our clients for sharing the beauty of their children with us. We thank you for your trust and the belief in your child. We know it takes a village to raise a child and appreciate from the bottom of our hearts being a part of that village. God's speed to each of you and never stop believing in miracles!

When I first came here I was just under two.
Unaware of the impact Minding Miracles would do.

Who would have known that this very small school
Would be the very first and most important tool.

Even though I would cry every-time that I came,
I soon learned to listen and answer to my name.

I'm approximating words and making some sounds.
I'm gesturing for things when I make my rounds.

I learned how to point, give high fives and clap.
I can sort all my colors and sometimes I'd nap

I may not be as vocal as the other two guys,
But I'm taking it all in and making some strides.

Somehow you reached me and got into my head,
Opening my eyes and ears to everything being said.

Maybe it was Miss Rita's tender mother-like care,
Or maybe Beth running her fingers through my hair.

Maybe it was Gina's kisses; she slobbered all over my face,
Or the walks with Miss Heather; we took around the place.

Maybe it was Michael or Gianni's sweet voice,
Their efforts to include me in group play by choice.

Maybe it was our sessions; we shared in the back,
Your constant encouragement that kept me on track.

Or maybe it was your school and all of those inside,
Who have helped me to learn and have been by my side.

A "Thank you" just isn't enough for all that you do,
Your patience, kindness and dedication shine through.

So I'm thanking everyone from the bottom of my heart,
For helping me get off to a really great start.

Love, Maxwell and His Mom

I wish I had a million dollars to buy each of you elaborate gifts because you have given us the greatest gift ever. Happy children - thriving children -- speaking children - OUR children, back ! We know they will continue to thrive and be the best they can be because of your love and dedication. Lizzy has come such a long way because of you. Abby is starting to emerge because of you ! Little Artie is learning that people are different and to accept them for who they are, and that is because of you too! For the first time ever my three children are playing together and talking. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You have been there for Aurther and I from day one. You have influenced and guided us all through this journey. We feel that God has sent you - our angles - to help and guide over us and for that and everything else you have done and continue to do for us -Thank you! Mrs. H.

To everyone at Minding Miracles, I need to thank you not only for all the undeniable help you have given Matthew; but, just as important your constant caring, understanding and support to our family. You have touched him so much and given him the opportunity to emerge as a little boy. I am forever grateful for all your hard work I am lucky that I trusted your school with my son’s future! You have not let us down. I believe that with your help, Matty has been saved from the mask of autism. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I do believe in miracles!!! - Mrs. H

Words cannot express our gratitude for all you do!! I truly feel you and all "the girls" are angels on earth. A year ago Greg and I could never imagine that Salvatore could be the happy little boy he is today. We truly feel that you have worked a miracle with him. We are also grateful for the way you have embraced Alana. We feel truly blessed to have found you and this wonderful school. - Mrs. E.

Thank you for all your kindness and dedication to your students. You all have a large impact on Jimmy’s improvement. We are sooo amazed of all the little things Jimmy is doing. He got his own socks and shoes today to go out. He waits for me with out having a tantrum when I say "wait". It’s all the little things that amaze me and Jim, and I know in my heart he is in the best place on earth. He continues to have his little tantrums, but, we now know and understand how to work through them. Because of Minding Miracles Jimmy is aware of me and his dad, I don‘t think he ever really was before. We can’t thank you enough. - Mrs. P

There is really no amount of money or words to express our gratitude in "rescuing" Evan these past few months. He has made such incredible strides and just seems to be enjoying his little life so much more since starting Minding Miracles. We will be forever indebted to you for making such a complete difference in all of our lives. We feel tuely blessed to have found you. and the love , joy, peace and encouragement he needs everyday. Please don’t ever doubt the power and talent you have in all the children you guide. Love, B&S S

To all the therapists, teachers and aids who work with my angel, I don’t need to tell you what an amazing little person he is… you see it every day. But you should also know that your dedication and the love you show him has opened him up to our entire family. It is because of you we have him. There are no sufficient words of thanks for all the hugs, kisses, smiles, and laughter he blesses us with each day! We owe you a debt of gratitude that can’t be repaid. You are truly gifted and blessed people! Mrs. D.

To all the angels at Minding Miracles, There is no way to express the heartfelt thanks that my family and I have for the genuine commitment, talent and love you have provided our children. It is so difficult to let go and allow some one else to help a mom parent her children. You not only supported me through the most difficult time in my life, but have given me back my children. It is so hart to trust, and you have showed me the only thing to do is trust. I know God has brought you to me and my family. Our lives are truly blessed thanks to the many miracles Minding Miracles has given us. Love, Mrs. B.

Evan started first grade today, thanks to you. He is no longer the lost little boy hiding away in the shadow of autism. You have pulled him out and given him a voice. He is a thriving, thinking lively little boy with a sense of humor I know the staff of Minding Miracles have had the most amazing impact on him. I know that because he has started first grade today. Thank you Mr. B.

Disabled kids learn to mix at special preschool
ARIELLE LEVIN BECKER STAFF WRITER

Aidan was busy coloring a duck drawing brown earlier this month when classmate Gianni DeDonno, 5, pulled up a chair.

Aidan, can I color with you?" Gianni asked, sitting down and staking a claim to the other side of Aidan's open coloring book.

After turning the page, Gianni neatly colored the beak of a toucan with his fuchsia marker, while Aidan drew sharp lines of aqua across the outline of a fish.

"Just like me, nice and slow," Gianni coached.

One of the nondisabled pupils at Minding Miracles Learning Center, Gianni has taken 3-year-old Aidan under his wing. Heather Kirschner, the center manager, calls Gianni Aidan's "sidekick."

The Old Bridge program includes children with and without disabilities; those with special needs primarily have forms of autism, like Aidan, Kirschner said.
Because children with autism mimic each other, it's useful to have typical children to model off of, Kirschner said. The typical children, in turn, learn to understand their peers who have more difficulty understanding or completing tasks, making them more accepting and better able to handle others when they get older, she said.
Some of the disabled children are placed there by school districts that do not have suitable programs for them, Kirschner said. And often, children like Aidan, who came from programs that were ill-fitting, progress quickly when they begin, Kirschner said.

"A lot of times, if they come from an inappropriate program where they weren't being challenged enough and now they receive what they need, you'll see a drastic change," she said.

In Aidan's case, it means that he rarely grinds his teeth anymore and has been saying more words, his mother, Katina Ventimiglia, said. Lately, he's been speaking in sentences.

He practices skills such as counting to 10 and drawing the letter "A" in a cubby in the back room, working one-on-one with a staff member. Later, he reinforces what he learned by using the skills in the regular classroom - a practice called "natural environment teaching."

There's also playtime, of course. But even that has its built-in benefits.
Shortly after Aidan and Gianni finished coloring, Kirschner brought out a bottle of shaving cream. The pupils put on aprons and gathered at the round table as she sprayed globs of the cream for them to spread around the table. They covered small objects, inundating toy Tiggers and immersing their arms in the slippery foam as the scent of Barbasol filled the room.

It's a fun activity, but also designed to stimulate sensory needs and help the pupils become familiar with different textures.

And it's a way to practice other skills. Midway through the white slippery mess, Kirschner helped Aidan recall an earlier lesson as he ran his index finger through the shaving cream. Up, down, across," she said.

His fingers followed the directions, slowly. Until he'd formed an "A."
Aidan's face raised in a smile and Kirscher and the other instructors in the room joined him as he cheered.
"Yaaaaaaay!"
